What started as a quiet Sunday morning ride on the Central Coast turned violent when a driver passed dangerously close to two cyclists, then stopped and assaulted one of them.
“We were entering a two-lane roundabout where the cycle lane ends. He passed way too close - then pulled over and called us selfish c--ts before attacking.”
The incident was captured by the cyclist’s Cycliq Fly12 and Fly6 cameras, providing undeniable evidence for police.
“There are too many instances of antisocial, dangerous, and inattentive driving. That’s why I record my rides - for hard evidence.”
The footage led to swift police action. The driver, 32-year-old Robert Kevin Kinley, was convicted of assault and dangerous driving. He received:
-
$1,700 in fines
-
A 12-month Community Corrections Order
-
100 hours of community service
-
A mandatory alcohol abstinence requirement
“Despite the driver’s claims that we weren’t keeping left, the footage proved otherwise.”
The cyclist says the reporting process was straightforward this time - thanks to the video evidence. The full news article is available here
Why Recording Matters
It's hard to believe some of the crazy behaviour that happens on the road, the best defence is crystal clear video that leaves no room for debate.
You know the type. “I’m sure they wouldn’t have done that” or “No-one would be that stupid” … except, unfortunately, we know different.
As well as stopping another ‘he-said, she-said’ defence dead in its tracks, having video evidence helps everyone understand the how and why of those “what-the-hell-just-happened” moments.
When things go wrong, video gives you the power to show exactly what happened. And when drivers know they might be recorded, they’re more likely to think twice before making a dangerous choice.Feel safe. Record your ride.
